The Elizabeth school of dance first tapped its toes in 1983, founded by Elizabeth Barrow (IDTA ABt, AMD, MUTD) who had a vision of bringing something new and exciting to the small village of Colne Engaine. The first dance show saw 35 dancers take to the stage, since then the school has grown to over 300 students aged from tiny toddlers upwards, taking part in the various disciplines of dance and performance. Students have been supported by Elizabeth to become teachers in their own right, expanding the geographical footprint of the school.
We are proud to play a key part in assisting with physical fitness and well being, contributing significantly to building confidence, developing good posture, assisting in achieving personal goals, instilling the precise discipline that dance can require and also allowing our students the chance to learn in a fun, friendly and encouraging environment.
Our qualified teachers offer classes in ballet, tap, modern, acro and musical theatre , from pre-school to adults, classes are currently run Monday through to Saturday. All students have the opportunity to take part in exams leading to a qualification awarded by the UTD (United Teachers of Dance). The Elizabeth School of Dance produces a show every 2 years which is open to all students, we also regularly take part in local village fetes and other exciting opportunities such as dancing at variety shows, weddings and pantomimes.
